Tennis Player Ashley Harkleroad Is Posing For Playboy. Why Are There Different Standards For Male And Female Athletes?
Since I am gay I am probably the wrong person to ask if it is right or wrong for Ashley Harkleroad to pose nude in Playboy Magazine. Harkleroad is a lightweight in women’s tennis she has never been ranked in the top thirty. Ashley is a solid player and maybe she could be top thirty one day but I don’t see Ashley ever reaching the top ten in women’s tennis. Ashley just doesn’t have the mental toughness, the serve, or the ability to be a champion.
Maybe Ashley realizes since she’s not that great a tennis player she needs to find a way to stay in the spotlight and make some money? After all, there is no such thing as bad publicity. If girlfriend needs the money then more power to her!
However, I also understand pop culture tends to be very harsh on female athletes if they express their sexuality. Remember Anna Kournikova? Kournikova was bashed by the media for focusing on her looks and not on her tennis.
Ana Ivanovic and Maria Sharapova are smart to make money off of their beauty but at least they have the grand slam results to back up the media attention. Both Ana and Maria have been ranked number one in the world. Ivanovic and Sharapova of course don’t mind the media attention but they want the world to focus on their tennis and not just their stunning looks.
I just heard tennis commentators Mary Carillo and Mary Joe Fernandez say on ESPN 2 that Ashley is getting paid in the middle range of six digits. Fernandez and Carillo obviously are not pleased at all about Ashley’s decision.
Last year Spanish tennis player Tommy Robredo posed nude in Cosmo magazine. Look at Robredo’s body this guy is just gorgeous! Also, I have heard from sources that Robredo is possibly gay or bisexual. Now of course I can’t verify this information but this is the gossip I have heard.
Nobody made a big deal that Robredo posed nude in Cosmo so why is it a big deal if Ashley poses nude? Although, I will say Roberdo is a solid tennis player and he was in the top ten last year. Robredo has also reached the Australian Open quarterfinals last year and the French Open quarterfinals twice in his career. I kind of wish the Cosmo photos revealed a bit more of Robredo’s body LOL! I mean come on I deserve to see at least one crotch shot right LOL!
Just a few weeks ago another Spanish tennis star Fernando Verdasco he took his clothes off for Cosmo magazine too! I have also been informed that Fernando is gay but of course again I can’t verify this information I am just going on what I have been told. In fact, according to my sources his lover is in the video link at the end of this article.
Oh my goodness I almost fainted when I saw Fernando on television for the first time this guy has a body to die for!!! Fernando is just gorgeous I enjoyed looking at the photos LOL! Fernando has a nice ass and great legs LOL!
Ashley just lost to Amelie Mauresmo in the first round of Wimbledon today 6-4 6-3 in straight sets. A few years ago the media thought Ashley was a promising player but she simply doesn’t have the power game of the Williams Sisters or Lindsay Davenport. In women’s tennis you need the atomic serves, the huge groundstrokes, and the speed. Ashley is quick but she doesn’t have the power. I guess Ashley really needed the money.
Here is the video link if you want to see Fernando’s interview and of course seeing him nude and in all of his glory LOL!
PS. Some nice photo shots of Fernando’s juicy ass too on the video link!
DVD Review: Monster’s Ball Is The Movie Progress Or A Step Backwards?
First off let me say congratulations to Halle Berry for have a successful delivery and giving birth to a healthy baby girl. Halle must be thrilled right now she’s always wanted to have a child. I am sure Halle will be a wonderful loving and caring mother. Although some people think I don’t like Halle Berry this is simply not true. I do think Halle is a solid actress one of her performances was in the television film “Introducing Dorothy Dandridge” for HBO.
Eighty three year old Ruby Dee was nominated for her performance in the film “American Gangster” she didn’t win. I was shocked this was Ruby Dee’s first Oscar nomination for best supporting actress. I think it is such a disgrace that Ruby Dee wasn’t nominated for her electrifying performance in the 1961 classic film “A Raisin In The Sun.”
I started to think to myself what is Halle Berry’s appeal really all about? Obviously Berry is a very attractive woman I’m not blind. My questions refer more about Halle Berry’s acting abilities. Halle Berry definitely takes risks in her roles more risks then other black actresses. I applaud Halle for taking challenging roles for pushing the conventional thinking about black woman. Halle Berry’s most controversial and perhaps the one she won an Oscar for was for Monster’s Ball. Halle’s acting in Monster’s Ball is superb you see the layers, the complexity the feelings of anguish, sadness, grief, regret, pain, and finally acceptance of her character’s circumstances.
I also believe Halle Berry benefited at being at the right place at the right time. Prior to winning the best actress Oscar Berry was already the top actress of colour in Hollywood. The best actress Oscar win simply cemented Halle Berry’s A list status. The question is will another black woman ever win best actress Oscar? Does it even matter? Should we care? Or is the bigger issue the lack of dramatic roles for black women? The Oscars appear to me to be more about politics then about the actual craft of acting.
In the year 2002 the Academy had heard for years that talented black actors weren’t winning Oscars. The Academy killed two birds with one stone giving the best actor and actress Oscars to Denzel Washington and Halle Berry. I cringe when people say this is progress. I am not so sure. Denzel’s character in “Training Day” was a crooked cop. Halle Berry’s character in Monster’s Ball comes across as a whore willing to do anything to move up the social ladder.
A lot of the criticism for Monster’s Ball is the fact many people believe Halle’s character Leticia Musgrove should of went to a less sexually attractive actress. I will admit seeing Halle even without make up on she still looks glamorous even though she’s not supposed to be. It makes sense that Billy Bob Thorton’s character the racist prison guard Hank would want to have sex with Leticia. Although Hank is a racist he is still a red blooded man with raging hormones.
The part of Monster’s Ball I don’t believe is how quickly Hank “falls in love” with Leticia it doesn’t make sense to me. Was it love or just lust? How can a man in middle age suddenly transform so quickly from being a racist bigot to falling in love with a black woman? Why did Hank send his racist father to the nursing home after insulting Leticia? I doubt this would occur in the real world.
After Leticia’s husband is executed she is struggling to pay her bills, she is forced to leave her apartment, and Hank decides to help her. The question is why? What was Hank’s real motivation? I wondered why didn’t the movie explore this a bit more? Didn’t Leticia have any family or friends or any connection to the black community? Leticia appeared isolated from the black community?
Perhaps this was the screenwriter’s true motivation the fantasy that a black woman needs to be saved by a white man in order to have a better life? The screenwriter’s real motivation also is to cheapen a black actress force her to perform in a degrading and racist sex scene for shock value. Hank doesn’t appear to me as a noble or nice man he just looks like a racist old man that wanted to exploit and take advantage of a young black woman that was vulnerable and in danger.
Heath Ledger has a small but important role in Monster’s Ball his character Sonny is a sensitive young man he works with his father at the prison. Heath Ledger was an attractive guy he easily could of been Halle’s love interest in Monster’s Ball. I think Berry and Ledger becoming a romantic couple in this movie would of made more sense. Sonny is depressed he feels unloved he sleeps with prostitutes because he cannot make a connection to a woman in the mainstream world. Sonny also feels unloved by his racist father Hank. I think it would of made more sense if Heath Ledger’s character Sonny fell in love with Leticia because Sonny wasn’t a racist.
Billy Bob Thorton is simply too repugnant, unattractive, and old for the leading man role. It just didn’t seem right that Leticia would fall in love with such an unappealing old guy. Monster’s Ball would of been a more interesting movie if Sonny and Leticia fell in love because they are closer in age and Sonny appeared to to be more open about interracial romance. Sonny was just insecure and weak he followed his father Hank because he was desperate for his approval and love. Sonny wasn’t a racist. Sonny commits suicide right in front of his father Hank and his racist grandfather.
Leticia’s son also dies in a tragic accident. Next, the media and public focus shifts to the intense sex scene between Berry and Thorton. The sex scene seems to me purely for shock value a way to gain publicity for the film and it worked. I am sure millions of heterosexual men flocked to the movie theaters because they can see sex symbol Halle Berry naked in her full glory. Leticia Musgrove is reduced to the pernicious stereotype of being a whore. In Hollywood black women are stereotyped two ways the black woman is either the maid or the whore there is hardly ever any balanced perspective of black female sexuality in the movies.
The quandary is the sex scene reduces Berry’s character Leticia to a filthy whore. Leticia screeches the famous line “make me feel good” with a sneer. I can understand why some black men were so enraged with the sex scene. The question has to be asked does a black woman have to reduce herself in a licentious nude sex scene to win Oscar? Is this really progress?
When was the last time you seen Angelina Jolie in an intense interracial sex scene with With Smith? Can a leading black male actor have an explicit sex scene with a top white actress and win an Oscar? Can Terrence Howard have an intense sexual scene with Jennifer Aniston or Julia Roberts and receive critical acclaim? The answer is never because that’s never going to happen. Hollywood is all about white male dominance and white heterosexual men will never allow leading white women to have black male love interests.
Would a white actress that is considered beautiful have an intense, nude sex scene with a black man and receive critical acclaim? Charlize Theron and Will Smith have a movie coming out this year called Hancock and according to reports there is an interracial love theme in this movie. Hancock is going to be a comedy it is not a drama. Theron is an A list white actress actress she is considered to be one of the most beautiful and talented women in Hollywood. Will Smith is A list the most powerful man in Hollywood and he is black. The question is despite Will Smith’s crossover success will Hancock be a success with the black and white audiences? How intense will the movie’s interracial theme be?
The sex scene in Monster’s Ball was meant to be fractured to be awkward, to illustrate two anguished souls smashing together for comfort. At the same time Halle Berry’s sex appeal was exploited to lure in the male audience and create a buzz for the movie. Monster’s Ball reduces Leticia Musgrove to being a prostitute. Angela Bassett slammed the character Leticia Musgrove in a famous interview with Newsweek magazine. Bassett said she was not impressed with the character Leticia Musgrove because she believes it stereotypes black female sexuality.
The relationship between Leticia and Hank is basically a transaction it is a form of prostitution. Hank the older white man wants Leticia’s body because she is young and pretty. Hank will allow Leticia to live with him if she has sex with him. Since Leticia has no money she offers her body to Hank for shelter. Hank also has a higher social status then Leticia she benefits from this as well. But where is the love? I didn’t feel that either character truly loved each other. I will give Halle Berry credit for taking on a role that despite the controversy her acting is very strong you really do believe Leticia is in a lot of pain. Monster’s Ball was the last big dramatic movie role for a black actress and that was over seven years ago. The paucity of leading lady roles for black women is still very rare. Think about it, when was the last time you went to a movie theater and saw a black actress in a serious dramatic piece as the leading lady?
Is Male Sexuality Still Demonized And Taboo In North America?
The former governor of New York state Eliot Spitzer has resigned because he was identified as a client of an exclusive prostitution ring. The most shocking aspect is that Spitzer allegedly paid $80,000 dollars to pay for the services of a female. $80,000 that’s an incredible amount of money! Spitzer is a married father and he has three teenaged daughters.
I felt kind of sad watching Spitzer’s wife on CNN because the poor woman she looked depressed, shell shocked, embarrassed, and humiliated standing next to her cheating husband. I wondered why does Mrs. Spitzer even bother? Why is she still supporting her man when she can just leave him and divorce him? Some people view Spitzer’s fall from grace as justice because he created laws and acted morally superior. In the end Spitzer couldn’t even live up to his own impossible standards.
In North American politics in order to be successful in the political arena you have to live in the paradigm of the perfect nuclear family. The politician has to be married, have beautiful intelligent children, and live in a big house and live the perfect heterosexual dream of true happiness. It is the image that is idealized by the media and the North American culture. Spitzer’s demise shatters the myth of compulsory heterosexuality.
I am not blaming Spitzer’s wife for his actions but he didn’t resign just due to politics he resigned due to the issue of morality. Although Spitzer was a very powerful man at the end of the day he is just a man. Spitzer is married and a marriage is a contract. Marriage is about loving and respecting your partner but it is also an antiquated institution. Does monogamy even exist anymore? How are you going to know your partner isn’t cheating on you? You can’t be around your partner 24/7? You are never ever going to really know?
However, lets say if Spitzer was single would the public outcry still be so loud for his resignation? Let’s play devil’s advocate here for a bit. Let’s say if Spitzer and his wife were swingers and the public found out? Would the public still want Spitzer to resign? The anger the public has at Spitzer of course is due to the fact he betrayed the public’s trust, he used taxpayers money to fund his horny desires with a twenty two year old prostitute.
The other reason Spitzer resigned as the governor of New York state is because he broke the social code on adultery in a heterosexual marriage. Adultery is considered a moral sin even though most marriages break down due to adultery. Marriage is still placed on a pedestal in society as the ultimate expression of heterosexual love. The divorce rate for heterosexual marriage is at 50% for a reason people still have a problem discussing our sexual desires and sexual fantasies. Critics of Spitzer say he had to resign because he is a hypocrite. A third reason Spitzer resigned is due to the schizophrenic attitude North Americans still have about prostitution. Prostitution should be legalized if the sex occurs between consenting adults.
People view prostitution as an issue of morality and not as just a sexual transaction. The john wants to have no strings attached sex and the prostitute wants the money. Women in particular have a problem with prostitution they don’t understand or want to understand male sexuality. I think in this regard gay male sexuality is a bit more egalitarian. People wonder why gay male bathhouses exist? The reason gay male bathhouses exist is in the past gay male sexuality was considered a criminal act and a social taboo. There is still discrimination against gay men in relation to us expressing our homosexuality. The battle for equal rights isn’t over. The gay male bathhouse is also a social place, a safe place, an environment where gay men and bisexual men are able to be free with our sexuality without judgment from the heterosexist matrix.
I must admit there are also some puritanical hypocritical gay men out there that look down on bathhouses as an example of hedonism. Gay male bathhouses are also male only spaces because of a variety of factors and issues. Although there are female bathhouse theme nights for lesbians or for women that want to engage in sexual activity with other women. Female bathhouse nights are actually growing in popularity in North America. I remember one year before gay pride I was walking by a popular bathhouse and there were hundreds of women outside trying to get into the female bathhouse. Women also want to have freedom to express their sexuality. Lesbians, bisexual women and even heterosexual women should be able to engage in sex without the judgment of the Mythical Norm. Gay men, closeted men, bisexual men, and yes even sometimes married men visit the gay bathhouse for casual sexual encounters.
The attitudes towards male homosexuality have relaxed over the years but the gay bathhouses still exist since the nineteenth century for a reason. The reason gay bathhouses exist is because the business owners know men will pay to enter the bathhouse . In order for patrons to enter a gay bathhouse men have to pay a fee for either a locker or a room. It may not sound politically correct but sometimes men just want to have no strings attached sex. Sometimes men we are just horny and want to get our rocks off on a Friday or Saturday night.
Gay men know the hunger, the desire, the need, for physical sex. The quandary for heterosexual men such as Governor Spitzer is straight men in North America don’t have the same access to sexual freedom that gay men have. North American heterosexual society places impossible standards on straight men. Heterosexual men are supposed to be virtuous and pristine.
In North America there are swinger clubs that exist for heterosexual couples that want to break the chains of compulsory heterosexuality and engage in anonymous sexual activity. But let’s say the straight man suggests to his female partner that he wants to join a swinger club but his wife or girlfriend refuses? I am certain there are heterosexual men that attempt to talk about their sexual desires with their wives and girlfriends. The straight men feel rejected by their female partners and looks at other options to explore their sexuality. What are men supposed to do?
Next, some men feel that since their girlfriends or wives are against them having sex outside the relationship pornography is a better alternative. The pornography business is more profitable then mainstream Hollywood for a reason. So why is there this reticence about pornography? Pornography is simply consenting adults engaging in sexual acts on video. Pornography is a manifestation of our sexual desires it is outlet that exists for people to explore human sexuality.
Some women are also against pornography for religious, political, and moral reasons. Some women feel ashamed or upset if their boyfriends or husbands watch pornography . For some illogical reason some women actually compare themselves to the women in the porn movies. I wonder why? Don’t women get it? Men love sex! Although a man may love his wife or girlfriend he’s always going to be glancing or looking at other women. It doesn’t mean the man will cheat but it does mean the man has a pulse.
Some women forbid their male partners from even watching porn on DVD in their own homes. What are heterosexual men supposed to do? Let’s say the heterosexual man doesn’t want his wife around when he’s having sex with the woman he secretly desires? Maybe the heterosexual man wants to have sex with a group of women? Maybe the straight man’s fantasy is to have an orgy or have a different woman perform a different sexual act on him? Perhaps this is the fear the silent barrier that men are conditioned by society to not discuss or talk about male sexuality?
The issue the North American media consistently ignores is heterosexual men have two fantasy women in their lives. The wife is the woman in the public sphere she is supposed to be respectable, loving, she is the woman that the man shows off at workplace events, weddings, funerals, conventions. The wife is the woman the man also talks about at work with his co workers.
The second woman the heterosexual man desires is the whore. Some men wish their wives were whores in the bedroom. The whore is the woman that is the man’s carnal fantasy. However, since heterosexuality is still so repressed in North America some straight men obtain the services of prostitutes to have their fantasies fulfilled. Maybe another reason heterosexual men like female prostitutes is the female prostitute is willing and able and knows no limits our boundaries to please the man.
The female prostitute is an outlet due for heterosexual men’s sexual desires. The prostitute is the woman men secretly want but there is a moral code against the female hooker too. The female hooker is scorned by other women as the culprit for destroying marriages. Is this really true? I don’t think its the female prostitute’s fault that a marriage falls apart. I think it is so unfair that people unload their own guilt about sex on the female prostitute. The female prostitute is simply doing her job she is fulfilling a service for the straight man that wants to get his rocks off.
Heterosexual swinger clubs are exploding across North America the popularity continues to grow. The catch is single heterosexual men are not permitted to attend swinger conventions alone. The man has to have a female partner in order to enter the Swinger clubs. It is clear that straight people too don’t just want to have sex with the same person all the time. Could the swinger club have been an option for a high profile person such as Eliot Spitzer? I doubt it. People hold high profile politicians to a higher standard then the rest of society. Since Spitzer is a public figure perhaps he couldn’t take his wife to swinger club? I wonder this is a hypothetical question would the public be more mad at Spitzer if he was a swinger and not a john?
Some straight men just want an orgasm they just want a woman to perform oral sex or just have vaginal sex without interaction without judgment. Spitzer could of went on the internet and found a woman to have a sexual encounter with? Maybe Spitzer could of asked his wife to join in? Some heterosexual men just want to screw an attractive woman they don’t want to get to know the woman or love her. One option of course is the heterosexual men can visit singles bars or clubs. The next issue relates to ageism. It is well known most bars kind of have an age limit in the sense if a man is perhaps close to age 50 at a straight bar he might be looked down upon.
However, according to the information straight men have told me this can be complicated. The straight man has to buy the woman a drink, he has to talk to the woman convince her to have sex with him. Sometimes straight men visit straight bars and they don’t get any action after the bar or club closes. So what is the option for heterosexual men that are sexually frustrated? The straight man turns to prostitution because although he may pay a fee he still is able to express his sexuality without judgment with a woman he finds sexually attractive.
Gay men are different we know if we visit a gay bar or club and we don’t connect with another guy the night isn’t over for us. The funny thing about gay bars and clubs is so many guys have so much attitude. Yet at two in the morning the same guy with attitude at the club is a different person at the bathhouse. I wonder why this occurs?
Another point to consider is gay and heterosexual men can make a distinction between love and sex. For some reason some women cannot. Sex and love are two completely different things. Some women view sex and love simultaneously and there is a connection. For some men engaging in sex with a woman outside of a relationship is simply about about fulfilling a personal physical carnal need. Love is something different it is about devotion, respect, intimacy, an emotional connection to another human being. Maybe some men are bored with their partners? Maybe the partner isn’t engaging in sexual acts that turns the man on? Maybe the man just wants to have sex with someone else try something new?
A quandary in North America is male sexuality is still demonized. Men are made to feel as though tapping into our sexual thoughts, our sexual desires is filthy, wrong, and disgusting. Instead of attempting to understand male sexuality the negative stereotypes are reinforced. For example, a man may love his wife or girlfriend. The man still has issues of temptation if men had the opportunity to get away with it men would easily cheat on their partners. If a man sees a chocolate cake on the table and he’s told not to eat it. Guess what? The man may not be able to resist temptation and eat the chocolate cake anyway.
So why is there this resistance to legalizing prostitution? Why does the invisible code still exist? Prostitution is basically legal anyway. Pick up the newspaper flip to the classified section. A lot of alternative newspapers make their bread and butter through the prostitution ads for services such as massages.
The bottom line is married men pay for sex. In fact, even single men pay for sex. People don’t want to think about prostitution they imagine the client of the prostitute must be some loser, some unattractive or elderly man. Spitzer is only 48 years old he easily could of found an intern to screw or join a swinger club with his wife but he chose to express his sexuality with a hooker due to lust. The lust of the flesh did Spitzer in. Spitzer was client number nine and some stories suggest he paid in cash up to almost $80,000 for the services of a hooker.
People don’t want to believe their father, brother, uncle, husband, best friend, cousin, grandpa, next door neighbor, the teacher, the crossing guard, the star athlete, police man, judge, fire fighter, or a top politician uses escort services? Who do people think are paying for these services? Women think it has to be somebody else, some other stranger’s man that’s paying for sex. It couldn’t possibly be their lover their man. It is very easy for men to hire a prostitute during their lunch break for a quickie and then return home to their wives or girlfriends at the end of the day.
Why is everyone trying to deny prostitution exists? In the Netherlands, Germany, New South Wales in Australia and other Western nations prostitution is legalized. It is clear there are men out there that are always going to pay for sex. So why isn’t prostitution legalized? In Western Europe and New South Wales in Australia, there aren’t social problems due to the legalization of prostitution. So why is North America so behind the curve? Prostitution is the world’s oldest profession so why don’t people just get their heads out of the sand and legalize it? It seems to me this relates to the issue of morality. North America is too puritanical in relation to sex people still buy into the belief that people must conform to monogamy even though everyone knows people that don’t. But the fact remains millions of North American men are paying for sex so why ignore the fact prostitution exists?Maybe if prostitution was legalized the social barriers around human sexuality would break down in North America?
Sex Tourism and Male Prostitution: European Women Travel to Africa In Search Of Young African Men For Sex
Reuters has a very interesting article that caught my attention today about a new trend in the sex tourism industry. The piece is about old rich European women most likely from the United Kingdom traveling to Africa in search of pretty young black men for sex.
Notice the double standards in the mainstream media in relation to sex tourism. Sex tourism is not just “specific” to just “one gender” yet the Occidental media has always framed this as a male only domain. We all have watched the documentaries about European or North American men traveling to Asia, Africa, or South America in search of young women for sex. Female sex tourism has gone on for decades yet now the mainstream media is finally focusing on the other side of sex tourism from the rich western woman’s perspective.
Why don’t the European women travel to India, China, South Korea, Japan, Nepal, Iran, Israel, Syria, or Jordan? Why do some white women make a decision to travel thousand of miles south to Africa or the Caribbean? What is the difference between Asian men and black men? I don’t read articles about white women traveling to China or Japan searching for Asian young men. What is so special about young African men?
The Reuters article discusses British women vacationing in Kenya in search of the big black penis. Have you heard about this trend? I bet you haven’t? I also believe some “feminists” are probably involved in sex tourism as well because they view it as “female empowerment”. It is the classic white heterosexual female victimhood. It is the classic attempts by some white heterosexual women utilizing their “gender” to downplay their racist and sexist views of young black male sexuality.
So here you have a bunch of hypocritical racist and misandrist feminists that will bash the male gender that engage in heterosexual sex tourism. However, when mainstream feminists engage in sex tourism and exploit young African men they suddenly are silent about their own bigotry and prejudices. Its like talk about throwing stones in glass houses.
The rich Occidental women have egos as well they want to feel attractive and sexy. Society has consistently bashed European or North American men that engage in sex tourism yet the media let women off the hook? I think its a total double standard. The European women also want to feel “hot” since they cannot “attract” young white men in the UK or Europe they travel to a foreign destination to feel powerful and in control. Its also well known in Africa “whiteness” is viewed as a social signifier of power, money, and dominance. The European women feel compelled to travel to Africa in search of young black men because the power dynamics are in their favour.
Its interesting, because in feminist circles the trend is always about women being the victims of sex tourism and that women are exploited. The feminists act as though women cannot be misandrist, racist, and sexist. The European women travel to Africa for sex are indeed sexist and racist because they view the black men as sex objects for white heterosexual female desire. The black men are not depicted as “equals”. Also, this isn’t about love this is about bunch of old ladies that want quick and easy sexual gratification while taking advantage of poor young African men in the process. Let’s not dress this up as some kind of romantic tale this is clear and obvious misandry. However, the Reuters article makes it clear that Kenya’s tourism industry is not happy about this new “image of the country” as a sex tourism magnet.
Now European women have joined in seeking young black men in Africa for sex. There is no age limit to how far these western women will go to fulfill their sexual desires. You have to wonder? Aren’t there young white or black European men available for these women? So why the need to travel thousands of miles to Africa for a sexual encounter? Its obvious that sex tourism is “easier” for the European women to not only to have the sexual encounters with young African men but also to fulfill their “African sex fantasy”. After the sex the European women can travel back to Europe and talk to their girlfriends about their “amazing” sexual encounters on the “dark continent”.
I think more research needs to take place in this arena. Why don’t the feminists discuss this perspective? Or do feminists not want to discuss sex tourism from a female perspective because they fear it will “place” white western women in a negative light? Aren’t these poor young black men here being exploited as well?
The American author Terry McMillan is perhaps the most famous western woman that was involved in sex tourism. McMillan’s so called “love affair” with her ex husband Jonathan Plummer started out as sex tourism. The western media attempted to make McMillan appear “empowered” that she traveled to Jamaica to “liberate” herself. The truth is Terry McMillan “traveled” to Jamaica in search of the Big Black Foreign Cock. Terry didn’t want to have sex with an African American man she wanted to have sex with a foreign black man “outside” of the United States.
Let’s be real and honest here. McMillan went on vacation in Jamaica specifically to seek out a young black man for sex. McMillan basically “purchased” a young Jamaican man Jonathan Plummer brought her “product” back to the good old United States. Soon Terry’s husband became her sex slave. I think McMillan and her marketing team were aware of how to “spin” the fairy tale about how she fell in love with her much younger husband.
One of the reasons McMillan married Plummer because she was cognizant of the negative image of the sex tourism factor. The residue of the social stigma of an older woman searching for sex in the Caribbean was probably on her mind and she had books to sell. Jonathan was only in his early twenties when he met McMillan he was young and naive. Of course he jumped at the opportunity to leave poverty behind in Jamaica for a new life in America. Although McMillan attempted to dress up her sex tourism experience as a “love affair” I’m not buying it.
My perspective is that McMillan and Plummer had an “agreement” about their so called relationship. McMillan wanted a young black man she could “control” and have sex with. Jonathan was basically a sex slave for Terry he had no say. Terry didn’t want Jonathan to have new friends or new experiences. Terry also used Jonathan as her “product” to help sell her “books” and her “brand”. McMillan’s relationship was framed as a new form of “feminism”. I don’t view someone exploiting someone else as “feminism” yet the feminist community sure did. Oprah had Terry and Jonathan on her show and Terry paraded her husband as though he wasn’t even a person he was just a human vibrator toy she bought in the Caribbean. Terry was much older more experienced she had the financial resources and Jonathan all he had was his youth. Terry also made sure they had separate bank accounts. After being married for a while Jonathan he grew up he wanted new life experiences and now Terry McMillan is “angry” that her much younger husband has left her. Terry was the one that got screwed in the end because she thought she could exploit Jonathan forever. Terry’s just bitter that her younger husband got sick of her. Is it liberating in feminist circles to exploit young black men just for sex?
Plummer wanted an opportunity for “freedom” in America. Plummer and McMillan used each other their relationship was basically a “transaction”. How could McMillan and Plummer just “fall in love” so quickly and she brings Jonathan back to the United States? I do not believe a word Terry says because she got a best selling novel and movie “Stella Got Her Groove Back” out of her sex tourism experience. Terry used her husband to get rich and now she doesn’t want to provide her ex husband with compensation even though he was the fuel to her so called “best selling” romance novel.
I also find it interesting the North American media had to present the “May/December love angle” about McMillan and Plummer’s relationship. McMillan and her marketing team knew they had to “frame” the relationship in a positive light to “hook” and “sell” it to her female reading audience. Why couldn’t Terry just be honest with the public? I remember watching SEX TV in Toronto there was an episode on this phenomenon of rich western black and white women travel to the Caribbean in search of the big black penis.
I had a few problems with the Reuters article. I thought it was racist of Reuters to make the assumption that “only” the young black men can have sexually transmitted diseases. The article made it crystal clear some of the European women did not want to use “condoms” they wanted to “feel” the experience of having sex with a black man. Just because the rich European women are “white” and “senior citizens” doesn’t mean they cannot also have sexually transmitted diseases. Isn’t it possible the European women can also pass on infections to the young black men? I thought this section of the article was very offensive because it frames young African men once again as disease carriers and it places all the blame on them.
Why did Reuters frame the article as if STDs is just one way traffic? I think its obvious once again that the media “lens” to this story is the older European women are “unfortunate victims”. The section about “condoms use” makes it appear as though the European women are “lonely spinsters” that aren’t thinking clearly. The truth is the white females are adults they have agency over their own minds and bodies. When are women ever accountable for their own actions? Nobody forced the European women to travel to Africa they made that choice. The British females made the decision to travel thousands of miles to Africa for sex. The European women know exactly what they are doing. Its so racist for Reuters to make it appear as though the white women have no say. The fact is the white women have all the power. The white women have the “money” and the young African men “don’t” so they obviously have the “control.” Sex tourism doesn’t just take place in Kenya other hot spots are Gambia, Nigeria, and South Africa as well.
The piece also ignored the “obvious” reasons Western women travel to Kenya, Nigeria, Gambia, or South Africa for sex. Sure, Reuters did explore the “exotic” factor a little bit. The truth is the “dark skin factor” wasn’t explored. Some people are attracted to “darker skinned” African men its a sexual turn on for some Westerners. In the Occidental societies its well known that darker skinned black men are viewed as more “masculine.” The Occidental world has a love/hate relationship with black men. Interracial sex between white women and black men is still seen as “taboo” in this world. Despite the hypocrisy the western media frame young black men as being sexually attractive but of course as “tainted.”
The anonymous factor is a major reason rich Western women travel to Africa for sex. No one will “know” the Western women went to Africa in search for sex with young black men. Just to make things clear I am not against sex between consenting adults people have a right to make their own decisions. I am also not against interracial sex. Its clear the older European women have manifested these sexual desires for young black men but an interracial relationship is considered “wrong” in the UK. The sex with the young black men is framed as “licentious”, “elicit” and “dirty” because if there was nothing “wrong” with the interracial sex why the need for the women to have their names “changed” for the Reuters article? After all, the European women are adults and adults can have sex with other adults if the sex is consensual.
The western women can have their sexual conquest and eat their cake too. Second, sex tourism is “fuelled” by racism. The racist stereotypes about black male sexuality is obvious. The “erotic” factor the Reuters didn’t explore is that some Western people think young African men are naive and easier to exploit since they are poor. Why didn’t the Reuters article explore this angle a bit further?
Why don’t the old British women chase young white males in the UK for sex? I am sure there are plenty of young white men in Scotland, or Wales, or England, or Northern Ireland that are poor too. Why not travel to Spain, Italy, Germany, France, or some where in Europe for these sexual encounters? So why aren’t these white women interested in “younger” white men? Why travel all the way to Africa?
I think the answer is clear some people still believe in the racist, misandrist stereotypes that all African men have enormous “large penises”, “more stamina”, “sexual prowess” and are “better lovers.” Let’s just put the cards on the table here we know what people say privately about black male sexuality. The racist and misandrist stereotypes are also that black men we only think about sex all the time and that’s all we are good for. It is disgusting and incredibly racist that Reuters refused to look at the article from all sides. Why is there this racist and sexist double standard? The Reuters article didn’t explore the sexual stereotypes angle enough. I was very disappointed about that because that’s the “fire” the “impetus” for Western people to travel to Africa for sex. The white women travelled to Africa in search of the mythical Big Black Dick.
These western women are not wallflowers they know “exactly” what they are doing and they aren’t “victims” either. In fact the European women are the “oppressors” they are taking advantage of poor, innocent, young black men for their own sexual gratification. Some of the men these women are having sex with are minors and teenagers. Some of these European female tourists are pedophiles. The reason white females travel down “south” for sex tourism is the same reason white and black western men do it they think obtaining sex is easier with no strings attached. So why is the public’s knowledge about sex tourism so one sided?
In the Occident young African, Caribbean, and Afro Latino men are viewed as poor, uneducated, and desperate for money. The young black men are easy victims for racist rich women looking to quick sex.The western women have the “money” and the black men have their “youth” and “beauty”. A transaction takes place this form of sex tourism is basically male prostitution. Yet you won’t read about this going on in many feminist journals that’s for sure.

Freedom At Last For Gernalow Wilson Georgia Supreme Court Rules In Favor For His Release
The Georgia Supreme Court has ruled 4-3 in favor to release Gernalow Wilson. Wilson was wrongfully convicted of having oral sex with a girl at a party when he was seventeen and the girl was fifteen years old in the year 2003. Even though the sexual act was consensual Wilson was still sentenced to ten years in prison. Wilson will now be released he is now twenty one years old. The State of Georgia has a price to pay for not only tarnishing Wilson’s reputation but also affecting and harming his life.
The Jena Six and Gernalow Wilson cases underscores the hated American society continues to have for young black men. Its important to note that black activism is so crucial especially in precarious times such as the present. Black American activists made their voices heard about the Gernalow Wilson case and justice finally is taking place. Its so disconcerting that it had taken two very long years for the Georgia Supreme Court to do the right thing. Its disgusting, racist, yet a perfect crystal clear example of the misandry that exists against young black men.
I sure hope Wilson sues the State of Georgia because he was locked up unfairly for two very long years. Its cruel, pernicious, and abhorrent treatment he endured. It makes me very angry and it just proves once again supremacy exists not just in society but also in the judicial system as well. Its such an injustice and a clear example of America’s racism against young black males. I believe there is indeed a pattern taking place here where young black men are unfairly being targeted and incarcerated by the American judicial system. And people say America has come a long way give me a break. Hopefully Wilson can have a productive and successful life but this case is a clear example of the disparity of justice for whites and blacks in the United States. Wilson lost his innocence its so sad what happened to him. I hope he has the strength to move on from this tragedy.

Michael Sandy Murder Trial Why Are Gay Men Silent About The Dangers Of Cruising?
About a year ago on October 8th 2006 a young black gay man Michael Sandy went to the parking lot of Plumb Beach in Brooklyn to hook up for a sexual encounter. Sandy had chatted online with another man for sex. However, Michael Sandy didn’t make it out alive that night. Sandy was lured into Plumb Beach for a sexual encounter but he was brutally beaten and robbed by four young white men. Sandy tried to flee his attackers he stumbled into traffic was hit by a car and died five days later.
Could you imagine if a racial reverse occurred? The white American media, the white gay mafia, the top white news networks would be on the case. The white heterosexual and gay media would be salivating and bloodthirsty there would be a new opportunity to pounce once again on the black community. One of the current themes in the mainstream media this year is that all black people are homophobic.
The white media would be attempting to make a “racial link” between the so called rampant black “homophobia” and “violence against white gays”. It is this apathetic racist attitude of society that’s so chilling yet so real. Yet here you have the Michael Sandy case a young black man that was brutally murdered by four young white men and it barely made the news!
Michael Sandy’s murder isn’t the first or last black gay person to be a victim of violence due to being black and gay. Sandy’s death has not received much media attention as Matthew Shepard for one reason. Sandy was black and Shepard was white. In America the blood of a white person has more social value then the blood of a black person. Sandy and Shepard were both victims of violence. However, in white gay America Sandy’s death was of no value or importance for “white gay rights” to advance the white gay agenda.
When Matthew Shepard died almost a decade ago the white gay and heterosexual communities raised the public awareness about gay bashing and homophobia. However, when Michael Sandy died there was only indifference. Sure, the mainstream gay American media wrote a couple articles about Sandy’s tragic death but there wasn’t the same urgency nor did the white American gay media take a stand. Michael Sandy although gay wasn’t “one” of “them” due to race.
Sandy wasn’t a member of the New York City white gay community he was an “outsider” since he was a black gay man. Michael Sandy’s death also exposes another issue and that’s the racism of the mainstream American gay community and the homophobia and hypocrisy of the heterosexual black community.
No Al Sharpton, no Jesse Jackson, no Andrew Young, no Tavis Smiley, it is clear that the black straight activists don’t care when black gay men are murdered. No CNN, no cover story on Newsweek, no CNN, no NBC, no ABC, no CBS. The black heterosexual activists quickly organized and marched for the Jena six though. The Jena six wasn’t just front page news in America it was global news the BBC in the United Kingdom and Le Monde in France were on that case.
However, anything to deal with black gay people well that’s just off limits. Black gay people we are still viewed as the scum of the earth. Even though Michael Sandy was a member of the black community being gay in the black community means you’re “different”. Black gay people are still viewed as people with no morals and considered a disgrace to the mainstream black community.
Its the silence that speaks volumes about the homophobia that still exists within the black North American communities. Of course, black gay people are indeed helping ourselves to improve our own lives. Black gay activists have been vocal about the Michael Sandy tragedy. There is only so much black gay activists can do. Its exhausting to constantly deal with the racism of the mainstream white gay community and the homophobia of heterosexual blacks. Its just disconcerting that the black heterosexual community is deaf and mute on this issue.
Its frustrating, annoying, and heterosexist, but the black straight media really don’t give a damn about black gays and lesbians. Michael Sandy should be discussed on every single black radio station across North America yet he’s hardly mentioned if at all. I did notice BET.COM have a brief blog entry about Michael Sandy’s trial and the usual discussions about morality emerged. Its frustrating because here you have a young black gay man that was brutally killed and the focus of the discussion for straight blacks on BET.COM is about morality? I screamed at the top of my lungs. Its like being black and gay there is a constant tug of war people on both sides of the racial, cultural divide cannot be counted on.
The African American gay community in America did make their voices heard about the Michael Sandy’s murder. Black gay people we have to realize we have to help ourselves not just in times of crisis but all the time. The black heterosexual community does not care for black gays and lesbians. The mainstream white gay community only “wants” black gay support when it serves their self interests due to sexual orientation while ignoring race. Black gays and lesbians we cannot ignore race because it is inextricably linked to our identities. Since white gays still possess white skin privilege they have a choice to think about sexual orientation and race we do not have that choice.
Michael Sandy could of been me, he could of been any of my friends, he could of been someone that I knew. The Michael Sandy tragedy strikes a chord in me because I know what it feels like to have my hormones take over and not think things through completely. All men think about sex and there is nothing wrong with that. Michael Sandy had a sex drive like any other living breathing male. Michael Sandy took a risk a risk he thought he could handle. How was Michael Sandy supposed to know he was going to be attacked? He didn’t? Michael Sandy thought the sexual encounter would be like any other a thrill, a rush of excitement. Michael Sandy’s death is a chilling reminder to young gay black men that there are men out there that are evil and prey on gay black male sexuality that wish to exploit and destroy us.
According to news reports the good news is that three out of the four men have been convicted of a hate crime but not of first degree murder. The first attacker he was convicted of manslaughter and robbery as a hate crime, one man did confess he admitted his guilt to robbery as a hate crime, and another man was convicted of manslaughter and robbery as a hate crime. The fourth man is still awaiting trial.
Plumb Beach’s parking lot in Brooklyn in New York City is still a cruising ground for men that have sex with other men a year later despite the risks. Plumb Beach is far away from the gay epicenter of downtown Manhattan. Men sit in their cars in the parking lot at night waiting for other men to approach them and then they leave the park for a sexual encounter.
The Michael Sandy case pulls the covers off of an issue a lot of gay men do not want to discuss and that’s the potential dangers of cruising for sex. Why is the issue of the entrenched racism against black gay and lesbian people ignored by the media? The mainstream media are attempting to ignore a clear fact that “racism” along with homophobia was a factor in this tragedy.
The Michael Sandy murder case is an opportunity to form a dialogue about the barriers that gay men of colour or closeted men of colour experience. Where are the support networks for young black gay men and other gay men of colour? Although it has been mentioned that Michael Sandy was a young black gay man the media have focused on the issue of “homosexuality,” “gay bashing”, and ignored the issue of systematic “racism”. The question remains why? Black gay people we cannot separate ourselves from our blackness or our sexual orientation, we encounter multiple layers of oppression.
Race is a factor here because there is an intersection of racism and homophobia that makes black gay men vulnerable. The media have focused on the “gay bashing” of Michael Sandy yet it must be pointed out Sandy’s attackers were young white males. It is indeed possible Sandy’s attackers targeted him not just because he was gay but also because he was black and they wanted to kill a young black gay man.
The Michael Sandy trial has not received much attention in the African American heterosexual media although the New York City press have covered the story. It is disconcerting that the larger heterosexual black community are not cognizant of the sheer violence that young black gay and lesbian people can encounter. Black gay people we face racism, sexism, and homophobia. I wish stronger ties could be forged between the black heterosexual and black gay and lesbian communities. For some young gay men of colour cruising is considered a more viable option to explore sexuality then going to the gay epicenter and not encountering the racism in the white gay epicenter.
Every gay man regardless of race has cruised. Everybody has done it and the gay men that claim to have never cruised for sexual encounters are either lying or never done it yet. Whether its going to a bar, going to a party, going to a bathhouse, going to a park at night, or looking online its still cruising. It must be hard for straight people to understand” why gay men “cruise” for sex.
In Toronto there was a horrible tragedy recently although for slightly different circumstances. A seventy two year old white gay man named Harley Walker died after meeting up with a man he met online. Walker met up with another man online for a sexual encounter not at a public parking lot but at his residence in downtown Toronto. A violent struggle took place yet the killer transported Walker’s body to Northern Ontario and dumped it there. Recently the remains of Mr. Walker have been found. Mr. Walker’s death highlights another issue and that’s the safety of gays cruising for sex as well.
Should Sandy and Mr. Walker had been more cautious? Perhaps? But hindsight isn’t always 20/20. Both men believed they were safe. Sandy knew Plumb Beach was a gay cruising ground in Brooklyn. Walker believed his own residence was a safe place for a sexual encounter. Both males were cognizant of the dangers of cruising and thought they would be safe.
In North America gay men have much more freedom and rights compared to men from other countries. However there are still powerful invisible social stigmas attached to male homosexuality. Male homosexuality is still viewed as decadent behavior in society’s eyes. Although gay rights have improved tremendously homophobia also exists. For closeted men also known as men that have sex with men going to a gay bathhouse is not an option or a gay bar because they could be potentially “seen” in public. There is a fear for these men that people will find out about them. Another issue is the danger for gay men is gay men are vulnerable to “gay bashers” that know where gay men go cruising for sex and seek to exploit, rob, murder, or attack gay men.
Sandy and Walker were openly gay men they were cognizant of the gay scenes in their respective cities and yet still they were both vulnerable to male violence. The issue of male violence is another issue some gay men don’t want to discuss about because some view it as threatening our manhood. It is true gay men can be victims of violence by other men. In society the belief is that men we can take care of ourselves and are not vulnerable to male violence but this is not true. Heterosexual men can be potential perpetrators and gay bash and even murder gay men. Male violence is an issue gay men need to discuss and form a dialogue on more often.
The internet has become a vital and important tool for gay men, married, bisexual men, men that have girlfriends that don’t consider themselves gay to meet other men for sexual encounters. Cruising is still a part of the ” gay underground” it still remains hidden to straight eyes.Perhaps this is one of the attractions gay men have to “cruising” because “cruising” is also a scavenger hunt, a journey, a chase, a way to explore sexuality without the fear of the heterosexual society’s piercing eyes of contempt and judgement.
Being a gay male in North America is still taboo to a certain extent. There are anti discrimination laws that protect gays but there is still the belief in North America that to be a gay male you are not living the “right” kind of life. For some closeted men they internalize this kind of homophobia they don’t feel comfortable with the larger gay community that is very white and has other barriers such as racism. Not every man regardless of whether he is in or out of the closet wants to go cruising at the usual gay social centers such as a bar or a bathhouse. Not every gay or closeted man is out to family, friends or even to themselves. It is important to identify that some of the men that cruise for sex do not identify themselves as gay.
Some straight people may believe this sounds illogical. How can men have sex with other men and not be gay? In straight society’s minds if men are making the decision to cruise for sex travelling to places known for where gay male sex takes place they view these men as gay. However, in the minds of the closeted men they don’t identify as gay or even as bisexual they view this sexual activity as just as something they want to do. Unless you live in specific gay neighborhoods men cannot approach another men in public say at a bookstore, supermarket, or at a movie theatre, or on the street for a date.
The public sphere is still very heterosexist it is where straight people do not have internal social barriers. For example straight men don’t think to themselves being “heterosexual” is “not okay” there is no internal social barrier. Straight people can meet straight people just about anywhere they want. Its also the reason closeted gay men like the United States Senator Larry Craig will cruise for sex in an airport washroom. It is also the reason some men take drastic steps to meeting in public parking lots, cruising in parks, cruising in public washrooms for sexual encounters. Society forces gay men to “cruise” I believe. Now my view is it is unacceptable to cruise for sex in a public washroom because its a public space. However, cruising in public washrooms does take place because closeted men feel compelled to do this due to society’s homophobia and that’s what’s being lost in all the news reports.
The heterosexual media still have the homophobic attitude that “cruising” is “wrong”. There is no “wrong” or “right” here. There are always going to be gay men that cruise in public or private spheres. Cruising exists because gay men feel compelled to take action to explore sexuality and to meet in social spaces gay males “think” other gay men are due to society’s entrenched homophobia. If society was a truly “open” and “accepting” of male homosexuality perhaps gay men wouldn’t feel the need to cruise but that day hasn’t come yet. Michael Sandy and Harley Walker’s deaths are a wake up call to the North American gay communities that more education needs to take place more needs to be done to reach gay men and explain or discuss and have a forum about cruising. Why is cruising our dirty secret? Why is it in the closet? Just about every gay man cruises in his own way whether he chooses to admit it or not? Maybe if the gay male community was more focused on working together instead of trying to present an image of compulsory heterosexuality more action could take place.

UK Female Tennis Coach Accused of Spending Too much time with Young Female Pupil
Its always interesting reading newspapers on the internet especially when the topic of homosexuality emerges. The more things change the more they stay the same. In England the tabloids and even the mainstream UK media are all excited about a story that is actually very serious. It involves a female tennis coach Claire Lyte and a teenaged girl the pupil. Lyte is accused of having sexual relations with the teenager when she was only thirteen years old. The trial for Claire Lyte is taking place right now in Liverpool England.
Why is it necessary for the UK media to scream across the headlines “lesbian sex” or “lesbian affair”? Yes the two people involved in this very serious case of potential child abuse are both females. However, isn’t this damaging to the girl to call this a “lesbian affair”? The girl is old enough to read the newspapers. Don’t the UK media care about the affect this case can have on the teen?
After all, the child here is the victim. Why are the UK media already declaring that this is an issue about “lesbianism?” This case is not about lesbianism. Why are there double standards here? If the accused tennis coach was a male and he was accused of having sexual relations with a thirteen year old boy I am certain the UK media would take the case more seriously. The tone of the articles in the UK press would be much different it certainly wouldn’t be so sensationalized. The UK newspapers are just trying to get their readers into a frothy frenzy with the controversial headlines and the salacious language used in the articles. The main issue here is did the tennis coach abuse her authority or not?
And that’s my next question why is the UK media not taking this very serious issue of potential child abuse very seriously? I think it has to do with society’s attitude towards the issue of lesbianism. Society appears to have a love and hate relationship with lesbianism. On the one hand lesbianism is viewed as being licentious and on the other hand its viewed as something forbidden and wrong. The UK media are sending the wrong messages to the public. Child abuse should not be used to “sell” newspapers it should be about concentrating on the facts and reporting the story intelligently and fairly.
However, the use the word “lesbian sex” I believe transforms and trivializes the circumstances of this case. This case is not about “sex” its about power, abuse of authority, control, and child abuse. Just because both the people involved in this case are females does not mean the press should downplaying the seriousness of the charges. I find it very problematic that the UK media are making this case into a “tawdry affair”.
Now the mother of the victim claims she stepped into the room while Lyte and the thirteen year old girl were engaging in sexual relations. Now if this is true then Lyte must be prosecuted. However, the mother of the girl still allowed the girl to have tennis lessons with Lyte. If its true that Lyte abused the girl why would the mother allow her daughter to continue having tennis lessons with Lyte? Is the mother now an accessory to the act? If it is true that the mother saw her daughter engaging in sexual relations with an adult how could she allow her daughter to continue to take tennis lessons from the accused? It doesn’t make sense? The mother should of contacted the police right away.
According to UK media reports traces of Lyte’s DNA was found in the girl’s underwear. It does appear though that Lyte abused her position of authority and could of spent too much time with the tennis pupil. However, is DNA evidence 100% proof? Nobody knows if anything “improper” actually has taken place yet? The British media are incorrectly stating that the coach had ”lesbian sex” with the tennis pupil. I believe this kind of headline is prejudice against lesbianism. Lesbianism is being treated as though its some kind of sensational act. Why is it necessary for the UK media to place the word “lesbian” before “sex” and why are they jumping to conclusions?
The only veracity at the moment is Claire Lyte may have spent a bit too much time with the young girl. Why doesn’t the UK media wait for an investigation to take place prior to making this very serious issue about potential child abuse into “gossip” for their readers?

Book Review: Hung
Two years ago a young African American writer Scott Poulson-Bryant wrote an explosive book called “Hung”. It is also excellent that a young black man wrote this book because I can relate to the material he writes about. The title of the book “Hung” has a double meaning it refers to black men being lynched in the south for daring to look or date white women. The word “hung” also refers to the size of a man’s penis.
Poulson-Bryant’s book is brave and bold it opens with a letter to Emmett Till. Emmett Till was a young black boy that was brutally murdered by white Southern men in the year 1955 in the American South. Till was only fourteen years old when he died he was accused by some white Southern men for “whistling” at a white woman. During America’s racial apartheid one of the ways in which white males attempted to control black male sexuality was through killing innocent young black men by lynching them and hanging them in trees. Lynching was also a method in which white males had an affirmation of their male dominance and their own sexuality. White men did not want white women to date or have children with black men.
The white males in the South controlled the white females, black males, and black women sexuality. The hypocrisy here is that it is well known white men brutally raped black women and exploited black female sexuality. The white males were able to assert their male dominance over all women. However, the white males did not want the black men to also have sexual relations with white women.
Black women were also vulnerable because the laws did not protect black women from rape just white women. Black men were emasculated because the legal system did not even allow black men to protect black women from being raped by white men. The legal system discriminated against black men and black women.
During the days of slavery and even into the 20th century it is well known that white men in the American South raped black women and got away with it. Often young black female domestics were raped by their white male employers in the employer’s residence. Black women were treated as inferior to white women since white female sexuality was placed on a pedestal.
Sometimes the penises of young black men were cut off by the lynch mob to symbolize the fear white men had of black male sexuality. Often white Southern people treated lynching black men as a town event. A white mob would cheer and laugh at these hangings some people even brought their children to a lynching. And if you don’t know pick up a history book and learn about the history of lynching and this disgraceful disgusting period in American history.
Poulson-Bryant discuses the sexism of women and the prejudices women also have about the “myth” of the black penis. Poulson-Bryant explores an incident from his own life experience. One year in college Poulson-Bryant met a white girl at a bar and later on they had sex. The white girl was not thrilled that Poulson-Bryant’s penis wasn’t “large” enough. Poulson-Bryant was shocked at the attitude of the white girl and began questioning himself and his manhood.
One of the strongest parts of the book “Hung” is when Poulson-Bryant explores the sexual racism of the gay community and the racist damaging stereotypes of black gay male sexuality. I know from my personal experiences that some white gay men do indeed view black men as sexual fetishes for sex. All you got to do is watch a DVD of “Queer As Folk” or “Six Feet Under” to understand what I am saying. Black men on these white gay TV shows were treated as window dressing characters that could be sexually exploited and placed back into the shadows. And there is more to black gay male sexuality then being a sideshow for white gays that’s for sure.
I remember a white guy I went out with ten years ago when I was barely out of my teens. One day I was over at the ex boyfriend’s apartment and he went to the bathroom. I don’t know why I did it but I saw his diary by his bed and I opened it. I was so disgusted in the diary entry of the former boyfriend of mine he wrote that he loved my “black penis.” Feelings of anger and disgust just washed over me. Am I not a complete person? Or was was this ex boyfriend of mine just interested in me because of a part of my anatomy? Well lets just put it this way the relationship ended very quickly after that. And I am glad it did.
Have I ever had sex with white guys before? Of course I have I’m not going to lie. Have I had sex with black men before? Of course I have. The difference is when I was intimate with black men I didn’t have this “myth” of the “black penis” and I definitely didn’t treat other black men as sex objects. Has the sex sometimes been good and pleasurable? Sure it has. I know men and women are different because I can separate between love and sex. Love is one thing and sex is a totally different issue. Some white gay guys will chase black gay men and vise versa for sex.
I will explain for the straight people that read my blog this next issue. In the gay male community there are “tops” and “bottoms”. If you ever go to a gay dating website the issue of “tops” and “bottoms” is the main issue. Everybody wants to know what “position” you play. Often when I am on gay dating websites I will receive messages from white gay men and sometimes from Asian gay men if I am a “top”. Sometimes I choose not to answer these questions because I find them not only annoying but it also verges on racism. In the gay male community the stereotype is that all black gay men are aggressive, Asian gay men are stereotyped as submissive and yet white gay men don’t get stereotyped because they are the majority.
The “top” is viewed as the more “masculine” male he is the one that penetrates the other male in his anus. The “bottom” is the more submissive male during gay sex that receives the penetration. If you’ve ever watch gay porn you will notice black gay males are often always tall, dark skinned to symbolize the “exotic” factor but also be extremely well “hung.” The white gay males in gay male pornography will be smaller have a smaller penis and will be the “submissive.” The gay male pornography acts out the whole master and slave complex but with a twist. The black gay male is depicted as the sexual “aggressor sexual master” and the white gay male is viewed as the “victim” or “passive” role. The black gay male will always have a deep voice in these gay porn movies and the white gay male will be meek and timid.
Also in the gay community it is well known that some white gay men chase black gay guys because they think all black men have large penises. If you take a look at the glossy mainstream white gay magazines often you will see half naked black men in advertisements for pornography or for contests at gay bars.
However, take a look at the masthead of these same white gay magazines you will never see a black gay man as the editor in chief or a top editor at these publications. Once again white gay males have the economic, gender, racial, and political power. Even gay porn skin mags that feature black gay men are run by white gay males.
A few years ago when I was younger I used to write for a Toronto gay publication Xtra! It had taken me a while to realize that the so called Toronto gay community was not “my community” it still was a “white” community although gay. The only reason the editor wanted me to write for Xtra! was because he wanted me to write about the “black gay” experience.
Xtra! wasn’t interested in my writings about other issues I was interested in. And my life is more then just my sexuality. I found the gay media limiting to me as a writer. Also in Xtra! you are never going to read many articles about the hypocrisy, double standards, and entrenched racism of the Canadian white gay community that’s for sure.
Scott Poulson-Bryant’s book struck a chord with me because I know how dehumanizing sexual racism in the gay community is. For some reason in the gay male community the subject of sexual racism is taboo and off limits?
Also when I was younger I used to hang out with a bunch of Asian gay males. Often these Asian gay males would complain to me and whine that white gay men weren’t giving them the “attention” they so desperately craved. Now of course, not all Asian gay men want white boyfriends and that’s not what this blog entry is about.
I am writing about a specific experience that I know about. One Asian gay male friend who is now a former friend of mine he also was very upset whenever we went to gay bars that the white gay men would ignore him. I told my so called friend that everyone has a sexual attraction and that there were white gay males interested in Asian gay men. Yet I question why my Asian gay male friend was so upset about “specifically” seeking out white gay guys. Poulson-Bryant effectively writes about the sexual organization of the gay male community is not only Eurocentric its also very racist as well.
In the gay community it is well known that men of colour and especially black gay men are depicted as just sexual objects for white homosexual male desire. Poulson-Bryant discusses a story about a friend of his that went to a gay party that was basically a sex orgy. Poulson-Bryant’s gay friend told him how some white gay men were so excited to perform oral sex on a black man’s penis simply because of the “color”. Bryant crafted the message that the “color is the size and the size is the color.” The only thing that was important to the white gay men at the sexual orgy was that Scott Poulson-Bryant’s friend’s penis was black.
The most important section of “Hung” is when Poulson-Bryant also explores the racism of the pornography industry. I found this section of the book to be one of the most honest readings I’ve ever had about the porn industry. Poulson-Bryant shatters the mystique and the silence about racism in pornography. The racist stereotypes about black male sexuality these manifestations not only exist but are mass produced on DVDs and easy for the eyes to see. I am not saying people should not enjoy porn and I am not a prude. I watch porn like every other gay guy.
I just want people to be more “cognizant” about what they are watching. Some porn I definitely stay clear of if I find it to be dehumanizing and racist. The racist beliefs about black men penises and depicting black men as ” sexual beasts” and “savages” that seek to “conquer”, “rape”, and “ravage” white women is definitely takes place I feel more in “heterosexual interracial porn.”
Details Magazine earlier this year publsihed an article about an interracial sex orgy that had taken place in suburbia at a residence of a white middle class couple. The white wife had a “hunger” for the black penis and the husband “allowed” black men to come into his house and screw his wife. The white husband claimed he didn’t mind his wife “screwing” black men because he knew she would “never” leave him for a black guy. When I read the Details article the writer didn’t even question the underlining homoerotic element. Why would a husband be “cool” with his wife screwing a whole bunch of young black men? I think the white husband got “off” and he was “turned on” by seeing black men have sex with white women. And I think a lot of heterosexual “interracial porn” has a kind of voyeuristic feel to it. You don’t see the white heterosexual men but they are the ones pulling the strings in the background. I also believe some white heterosexual men are “turned on” by black men.
Perhaps the fact that gay porn is between white gay men and black gay men both are male and it cancels out the “intimidation factor” and the “submission factor” is much less. Since gay male interracial porn is male on male I think racism definitely exists but not to the extreme as in heterosexual interracial pornography.
However, the straight interracial porn I have viewed between black men and white women I must admit I find some of it incredibly racist and very offensive. I wonder if the black men that make straight porn with white women understand they are being “used” and I feel in some ways “exploited”. In some interracial porn its all about the black straight men being depicted as a “rapist” or as “marauder” invading white heterosexual male territory and taking “advantage” of their women. The white women in interracial porn are depicted as “sluts” and “whores” that crave the “black penis.” So white women in heterosexual interracial porn don’t come off looking “good” either. I wonder if these young black men and white female entertainers in straight interracial porn understand what the porn video directors are “really” trying to say with the imagery? The porn industry is white male dominated a lot of the “interracial porn” between black men and white women is actually made for white heterosexual men and I find this to be homoerotic and perplexing. It appears to me some white heterosexual men have fascination with the black male penis and black male sexuality although they won’t admit it.
Everyone has seen a porn movie but have you ever paid attention to why there is so much interracial porn films between white women and black men? If you ever visit your local adult video store take a look. In the porn movies black men are of course depicted as sexual monsters with extremely large python like penises. Poulson Bryant asks the question who is this porn really for? I believe there is a homoerotic element to this kind of pornography and that some so called white straight guys are actually sexually attracted to black men. I mean why would a white heterosexual male want to see a black man have sex with a white woman? You can argue the white guy is just staring at the woman but I doubt it. I think some white men have an attraction but also a repulsion to black male sexuality.
Poulson-Bryant interviews the famous black porn star Lexington Steele. Steele is well known in the porn world for his enormous penis and his good looks. However, unlike most porn stars Steele doesn’t feel he is being exploited. Steele has managed to maintain control over his image and his product unlike many other people in the porn industry. Poulson-Bryant examines the reason interracial porn is popular but it is also taboo. Interracial porn porn is still considered “forbidden” and “salacious” and “dirty”.
Poulson-Bryant points out the large number of porn DVDs that are available for purchase at your local video store and the lack of mainstream movies with black heterosexual men having white female love interests. Remember the Super Bowl controversy over the commerical with the white actress Nicolette Sheridan from “Desperate Housewives” and the African American football player Terell Owens? White America had a heart attack. In the commerical Sheridan is in the men’s change room she takes off her towel and leaps into Owens arms. The controversy over the commerical was incredible because whites feared seeing black men and white women together.
If you’ve noticed these movies are rare for a variety of reasons. Poulson-Bryant also investigates another issue and that is the fear the white heterosexual male has of black male sexuality. Interracial marriage in some American states was illegal up to 1967 when the Supreme Court in the famous Loving Vs Virgina stuck down the racist law.
Poulson Bryant also explores the stereotypes that exist about black male sexuality in the media and pop culture especially with hip hop. In many hip hop music videos the black heterosexual rappers have to boast about their sexuality and masculinity because that’s the only power they have in society. In North America white men have political and economic power. I remember in a Caribbean Studies class during my undergraduate days my professor Andrea Davis said at York University black men only have two social markers one is physical strength and the other is sexual prowess. If you notice heterosexual black male rappers such as P Diddy and 50 Cent have to boast about how many women they sleep with because they don’t have any cultural signifiers of power.
