    Canadians are paying close attention to this election because it is exciting and interesting. The dynasty of the Bush and Clinton families has been shattered. According to a poll by the Canadian press most Canadians support Obama over Clinton and McCain.

    That’s likely a typical American attitude. It’s a complaint that foreigners have against us.

    Surely, there are other exciting and intersting things. Why would a Canadian be interested in this?

    But to answer you question, NO!

    This comes up because I wonder why people in foreign countries care about our politics or our movie stars, pop culture, etc. to the extent that they do. For example, I doubt if Americans care about –or know about — the president of Chile or the activities of Mumbai teenagers.

    I think it is because American culture is so entrenched in Canada. Also, because America is the only superpower in the world. The third reason is the two Democratic party candidates Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton are so different from the norm. The normal political candidates are white heterosexual men. Usually I don’t care for American politics but this year I am very intrigued.

    The Canadian media actually focuses on American issues a lot I can’t explain the reason why? Canadian politics is really dry at the moment we have a minority government meaning there isn’t much discussion going on. The only controversy in Canada is that a minister left his briefcase with classified documents at his girlfriend’s house. I believe the story about the minister actually reached the international media.
