Darius Rucker is a hit in country music. You failed to mention him. Also your view of country music (and description) is warped and you sound pretty narrow minded. Disliking a lifestyle or sexual orientation does not mean you have a "Phobia"(fear)of those things. you just don't agree. FeFe is hot!

You made a point ive been making for a long time and it was so nice to see someone else felt the same way.
the only thing i would say is that r'nb is dead- the term is now Urban pop. it is impossible to be rnb when you have Urban Pop Icons like Beyonce, Justin and Usher scoring hits with infectious club songs.

i think the aim for any artist who wants to sell records should be to be commercial but be honest.

and dreamwrite you are RIGHT. Island dropped so many artists just to focus on rihanna- how many of you saw teairra marie's interview where she explained how she was dropped. it was heartbreaking to see how jay z didnt have the decency to tell teairra himself.

she was called on her prom night and told by jay brown(the a&r who signed rihanna, neyo and teairra) that she was going to be dropped.
rihanna was only kept because her management got SOS (even though both she AND teaira had bad sales.

100% agreement with everything you said. Like in the UK where black artists seem to be stuck on MTV Base (hip hop, r'n'b) but white artists get shown across all the channels. If the black artist is HUGE then they start getting shown on other stations.

The whole industry is messed up. They play who they want to play and dump anyone who they don't want anymore like they don't even matter e.g. Def Jam ditches Fefe Dobson, Christina Milian and Tearri Marie so they can focus on Rihanna. It shows that talent doesn't matter anymore, just the clothes they wear, and then these labels wonder why record sales are going down and blame it on illegal downloading.

I totally agree with you, I have never even heard of this Deborah Cox girl, but now reading all this makes me want to wonder.
I am a huge Fefe Dobson fan, and I like Kelis as well.
I dunno, Fefe is similar to Avril, yet Avril is recieving more fame.
LOL, Rihanna... me and a couple of members of fefesource.com/43rdstreet were noticing that whole Rihanna stealing everyones style (of music/clothing/hair) and there are even vids on youtube.
someones gotta do something about this.

I was surfing on the internet when i came across this brilliant blog, I know I'm a whole year late i just think that this blog was what everyone needs to hear. Although i disagree on certain things you wrote i believe you have a valid and almost unchallengeable point. As a matter of fact the one thing i disagreed was the statement about Beyonce in relation to the topic of Kelis. Yes the Ring the alarm used a similar aspect as Kelis' Caught Out There" But that was it Beyonce just like other artist (excluding rihanna) reached high fame before she did that song, which by the way did not do exceptionally well on the charts and could have forgivingly been left out of B'day. Secondly, Lets to say Ring the alarm was entirely influenced by Kelis' song, Beyonce did not take full ownership of the originality of the piece. She never once said that she was the first to "Scream on a track". Beyonce most likely assumed that the originater of screaming was already established and decided that treading the waters of fairly untouched territory would help her grow as an artist. possibly. All in all, i believe you blog acted as the voice of the sane and intelligent listeners of current music. My only regret is that i had not located this blog earlier when i had enough time to spread its popularity. Great Job!!

PERSONAL I'M WHITE AND I DON'T CARE. GENRE DOESN'T NOT MAKE YOUR RACE. HIP HOP IS MY MUSIC. BEYONCE & RIHANNA ARE CONSIDERED "POP" WHILE JUSTIN TIMBERLAKE IS BEING PLAYED HERE IN L.A. ON POWER 1O6 [A HIP RADIO STATION IN LOS ANGELES COUNTY]. I JUST THINK FEFE [WHOEVER THAT IS] WAS TOO ROCK SIGNED TO A HIP HOP/POP LABEL. JAY TOOK HER OUT THAT'S BECAUSE HE DOES NOT THINK ROCK SHOULD BE SIGNED TOO A HIP HOP & POP CULTURED LABEL. GENRE IS JUST ANOTHER WORD FOR BACKGROUND MUSIC NOT RACE! RIHANNA IS BEING LOVED ALL OVER EVERY COUNTRY & EVERY RACE LOVED HER! BRITNEY IS ALSO KNOWN TO BE R&B AND POP.

i think you're right. i have been a huge supporter of Fefe since 2003, and for her to be dropped a day before her album was supposed to be released is really suspicious. I agree with you 100% about racism

I don't have a problem with Furtado and Stefani making their money crossing over to R&B. I do have a problem with the system and society where it is still considered "in vogue" when whites adopt a black style of music. I also have a problem with the black media that ignore black artists that don't fit into the myopic spectrum of "black music". For decades white singers have been able to profit and appropriate off of black culture. Yet the opposite is not true.

what's your problem with gwen stefani, nelly etc? it isn't there fault, it's the black ppl who listen to their music, and black ppl only listen to rnb and hip hop for some reason , and it isn't just black ppl, kids nowdays think it's cool to listen to hip hop and rnb rather than rock and country music, they don't care if they like the song or not, if everbody else is listening to a certain type of music they will follow. And avril lavigne had some good songs when she first came out but she is not rock she is pop, i don't think kelis is rock either i see her as pop/rnb/alternative.

And I was wondering if someone could explaine to me how gwen stefani is copying kelis? is it because she works with the neptunes now? because I was reading a interview with kelis and the interviewer asked her about that.

Hello Ada, thanks for taking the time to read my blog. Its so true Rihanna definitely has been ripping off Fefe Dobson's image. And you're right Fefe and Avril both released their albums around the same time. Fefe had moderate success in Canada going platinum selling over 100,000 copies. I don't get why Def Jam didn't give Fefe a chance the girl definitely has a lot of talent.

I wish Rissi Palmer well but she's getting into Country Music and the "vibe" I am getting is that people see her as a novelty act and won't take her seriously and that's unfortunate. I haven't heard much about Rissi's album since it was released. I hope the record label will market her well. I also get this vibe that Country Music wants to "remain" whiite. I find it interesting that white artists can appropriate black culture and make a profit but for some reason blacks encounter a barrier when trying to do the exact same thing? As for Nelly Furtado she totally went on the whole hjp hop/R&B thing because it sells and she wanted to make money. Also since Nelly is white she can get on Much Music, MTV and BET. For some reason black music fans think its "edgy" or "cool" if a white person sings hip hop/R&B. Don't people understand its just marketing and business? Nelly and her record company know she can reach more demographics, reach the black, youth, white market by changing her image and sound. And it worked for Nelly. But people shouldn't be so ignorant and not understand its just business.
Its also sad that Kelis tries to do rock and roll and yet she can't get on mainstream radio and even black radio.
